My sister-in-law, E, announced over Thanksgiving dinner that "SURPRISE!" she was engaged to P, the young man that was seated to her right at our dinner table. We all 'oooo'-ed and 'ahhhh'-ed over her beautiful engagement ring and then toasted the happy couple. I then, asked Emily if they had set a date yet? If my memory serves correctly, her exact words were, "OH, Hell no!" For those of you who know E, you know that this response was not surprising, not one bit. So, we went back to 'ooooing' and 'ahhhhing' over her ring and then I served the pie.
Fast forward to just a few weeks ago, when I received the most elegant "Save the Date" card in the mail from E, announcing that she and P will be married on September 25th of this year. I cannot tell you how excited I was to receive the "Save the Date" card. I LOVE weddings. From the dress, to the flowers, the ceremony and the reception; weddings are one of my most favorite events to attend. And when it's a family wedding, that's a bonus! You get to hear all the details as it unfolds, like the flavor of the cake, the type of flowers in the bridal bouquet, whether there will be an open bar? You know, all of the really important things about the wedding day. Needless to say, I am looking forward to September 25th, 2010.
A few nights ago, my in-laws came over for a family BBQ. My husband, myself, our son, my mother-in-law, my father-in-law, and my soon-to-be-wed sister-in-law were all enjoying a little family time on our back deck, when E said she had an important question to ask me. A million thoughts ran through my mind at that moment. Filling out invitations and RSVP cards, tying tiny pieces of ribbon around miniature bags of dinner mints or drawing out a seating chart for the reception dinner. I would gladly help my sister (in-law) with anything she requested to help with her special day. But to my surprise; no, make that to my honor, the request that Emily wanted to make, was to ask me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding. I was quite pleasantly surprised and truly honored. In fact, the more I think about it, the more it gives me the warm fuzzies.
